The Edwards-Knox Central School Athletic Hall of Fame was created to highlight the student athletes at our school over the
years. It also includes inductees from the two predecessor
schools, the Edwards Central and Knox Memorial Central Schools.
The first induction ceremony was held in June 2003. This group included four Edwards-Knox alumni, as
well as four graduates each from the former Edwards Central School
and Knox Memorial Central School. The
inductees each received a copy of the framed certificate that
now hangs on the wall outside of the main gym area of the
school. These can be viewed as soon as you enter the building
through what is referred to as the "Cougar" entrance. The
latest induction ceremony was held on December 27, 2008.
The committee has recently met and changed some of the criteria for
induction. Since the inception of the Hall of Fame, students were
eligible five years after graduation. It has been determined that
a five-year period was not a sufficient time to prove themselves in the
adult world. It was decided that students will not be considered
until ten years after graduation. The class of 2003 is the first
class to fall under this new ten year rule. Teams and coaches are also
eligible for induction. They will each be considered after
five years.
For teams it is from the season rather than the year of graduation
of its members and coaches are eligible five years after they leave
the employment of the district. The five year rule is not a
factor for individuals or teams from the Edwards Central and Knox
Memorial Central Schools. In addition, the committee discussed
what achievements warranted induction. It was decided that this
group was created to highlight the exceptional student athlete. It
is designed to be an elite group and its members should have shown
excellence in many areas or be truly exceptional in a given sport.
To be considered, a student must have qualified for All-Northern
athletic status in multiple sports. If a student athlete was only
chosen for an All-Northern team in one sport, then they should also have
other significant achievements such as an All-State or Watertown Times
team selection, set a school record or have some other outstanding
credit to their name. In addition to the athletic achievement of
our students, the Hall of Fame criteria includes the attitude they
conveyed and the role model they set. The student disciplinary
record both on and off school grounds is also an issue.
