Dangerous Lunch Boxes

Navigation

One of the most important things I want to bring to your attention is about an article on lunch boxes.  Some of you may have seen it on TV or read about it in the paper.

An environmental group in Oakland, California has found high lead content in some soft vinyl lunch boxes.  Seventeen of the lunchboxes were found to contain lead in excess of federal safety standards. The Angela Anaconda lunchbox was found to contain more than 90 times the legal limit for lead in paint in children’s products.  Other lunchboxes found with high lead content featured Superman, Tweety Bird, and the Hamtaro. We have displayed a few of the lunchboxes here. To see photos of all the lunchboxes listed in the article click on the following link. www.cehca.org

It is now after October 1.  That is the magic month when all Free/Reduce Meal Applications turn to Paid.  If you have not filled out a new application for this year, please feel free to do so.  It is always worth filling out.  Our school website has the application for you to download from your computer, of you or your student may pick one up at any register, or from my office.  Remember this year if you get a raise after you have been approved you do not need to notify me.  Your approval is good until October 1 2006.  It is important to fill out another in August or September of next year to continue receiving benefits.  If your income decreases at any time, or you have an addition to your household, fill out a new application if you are at the paid level, or reduced level, because your level may change to free.

We may have to go back to plastic silverware.  We have gone through 100 dozen teaspoons since September. 6, 2005.  At this rate we will run out before Jan. when new spoons come in.  If we run out we will have to go to plastic.  Please talk to your student, (and to you students who read my articles) help me save our planet and our silverware.  Do not throw away plastic reusable trays or stainless steel silverware.

Have a wonderful holiday.
