A BIT ABOUT ME

Although I currently am proud to teach and serve in the Edwards-Knox Central School system,  I do live outside of the school system on the 111 acre farm in the house where I grew up as a child.    The house I live in is far greater than a century in age, and my parents occupied it in 1949.   I live three miles south of the hamlet of South Colton, NY on a road called the French Pond Road.   I definitely enjoy a view near the top of some major Adirondack foothills at an elevation in excess of 1,200 feet!    As an amateur radio operator, it makes an ideal location to operate on the two meter and other VHF bands, although in recent years I have been relatively inactive with the hobby.  (My call sign is KB2JFS.)   While I love the district I teach in and the students I work with, I would never want to live anywhere else.  (My friends should remind me that I have said this after I gripe about my hilly drive during snowstorms and ice storms!)   My property is cut in two by the Adirondack Blue Line, which runs across the back pasture basically behind my house and barn.   In my humble opinion, it is a most picturesque setting on many occasions.    The big hill nicknamed the pinnacle by locals at the back end of my property rises to nearly 1,500 feet in elevation and provides a tremendous view of much of the area.

I was a student in Colton-Pierrepont Central School from grades K-12.   I am proud of the education I received at CPCS and was a 1976 graduate of that facility. I graduated as a member of the National Honor Society with a Regents Diploma, as well as a New York State regents scholarship.  In 1978, I graduated from Canton College with an Associate Degree in Agricultural Science. In 1982 my undergraduate education was completed at Potsdam College with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. My Master's Degree was completed in 1987 at Potsdam College. My major was in Science Education with a concentration in biology. In addition to these degrees, I have completed courses at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Buffalo, and SUNY Oswego.

It has been a privilege to have been granted the opportunity to many things involving education during my life.   I have met many wonderful individuals and have been proud to have the opportunity to learn a great deal from them.  These opportunities have included work as an adjunct instructor at  SUNY CantonSUNY Potsdam, membership in the New York State Biology-Chemistry Mentor Network, and my past work and present work for the New York State Education Department in reference to the Living Environment regents exam.   This work has included item writing, pretest rating, exam committee, and range finding activities.   I can not imagine and would never want to teach anywhere else, given the wonderful staff and students I work with.     I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of the NABT/NY Outstanding Biology Teacher Award in 2003.

I am thankful for the great influence my parents and relatives have had on my life, especially that of my Father, James M. Buckley Sr.   I owe so much to them as well.
