Upon completion of this unit the student will:

1.    correctly define the terms biology, inorganic, and organic.
2.    recognize that water is the most common inorganic compound in living things.
3.    correctly define the following terms; nutrition, ingestion, digestion, circulation, movement,
       respiration, synthesis, excretion, regulation, growth, reproduction, and immunity.
4.    define the term metabolism and relate it to the functioning of an organism.
5.    define the term homeostasis.
6.    recognize that a disruption in any organism system will result in a corresponding
       disruption of homeostasis.
7.    recognize that organisms possess a diverse set of control mechanisms that detect
       changes in the internal or external environment and make adjustments to correct
       the situation.
8.    explain the homeostatic regulation of body temperature in humans.
