My name is Margie French LaPoint, and I teach sixth grade. We are departmentalized, and I teach Language Arts and Social Studies to all sixth graders. I graduated from Edwards Central School and attended SUNY Cortland for two years. After marrying, I finished my B.A. at SUNY Potsdam, later receiving my Master's Degree from there in Elementary Education. My husband, Fred, is a retired physical education teacher at our school. We have four sons and seven grandchildren. Our oldest son, Scott is a pathologistin Rochester. Our second son, Douglas, is a science teacher, certified in Biology and Earth Science. He is currently teaching here a t Edwards-Knox. Christopher, our third son, is a supervisor/counselor at a residential treatment center for teens, located near Seneca Falls, NY. The youngest, Ryan, is living near New York City. He works at Borders and is hoping for a career in the music business field I am an active volunteer with the AFS student exchange program, and my family has hosted foreign students from Panama, Finland, and Brazil. Our son also spent a year in Switzerland as part of the AFS program. I initiated the idea of a chemical-free all-night graduation party at our school many years ago, and it has become a tradition here. My husband and I have also served as class advisors and have chaperoned senior trips several times.
