MACAULAY’S MINUTES

Prekindergarten

Monthly Edition – September

Welcome to Pre-K!  The purpose of Macaulay’s Minutes is to keep you informed about our pre-k year together and our many new and exciting activities.  This edition will inform you of some of our routines and housekeeping duties which help make our pre-k run smoothly.

1.     Supplies:  Your child will need an old shirt or smock for painting and messy activities, a backpack to carry notes to school and home, 1 box of baby wipes to help us clean up after activities, and a complete set of clothes (including socks and underwear) to use if there is a bathroom accident or mud accident.  Please be sure it is a set of clothes that can stay at school all year.

2.     Schedule:  The morning session will start at 7:45 and end at 11:00.  The afternoon session will start at 12:15 and end at 3:15 on Monday through Thursday.  On Friday, school is dismissed at 2:45.  We follow a six-day schedule.  The first day of school will be day 1.  The days continue in order until day 6 and then it is day 1 again.  If school is not in session for some reason, the following day we are in session becomes the scheduled day.  For example, if we had a snow day on a day 1, the next day would be day 1 instead.  This really doesn’t have much effect on our class because we do not attend gym, art, or music, so our schedule stays the same even if we have a snow day.

3.     Early Dismissal:  If for some reason your child needs to be excused from school, he or she will need a note.  Please try to send the note to school with your child if possible.  This makes it easier for me to be sure everyone is in the right place for dismissal.

4.     Absences:  If your child is absent from school due to sickness or other reasons, he or she will need an excuse when he or she returns to school.  Please try to send the excuse to school when your child returns to school.

5.     Breakfast and Lunch:  If your child comes to school in the morning, he or she will eat breakfast.  Breakfast consists of a juice, cereal, and milk.  The cost is 65 cents per day.  Free and reduced lunch prices apply to breakfast.  Your child may bring a breakfast from home if they would rather have something else.

The afternoon class will eat lunch in the cafeteria.  The cost for lunch each day is $1.65.  Your child may bring a lunch from home if he or she would prefer that instead.
