Elementary Attendance

When students are absent from school for illness and medical appointments, as authorized by school district regulations, a written excuse must be furnished by the student’s parent/guardian stating the reason for the absence. This written explanation must be presented to the classroom teacher on the day your son/daughter returns to school. This note should indicate the exact date(s) and reason for absence(s).

Student Arrival Time: 7:55 a.m.
Student Dismissal Time: 2:55 p.m.

Pick-up Guidelines

A child is expected to be waiting at the pick-up stop for the bus upon arrival. In the case of inclement weather, students may wait under cover with their coats, shoes, and backpacks on. When the door to the bus opens, the student(s) should be visibly walking to the bus. The bus cannot wait at each stop for multiple siblings to walk individually to the bus.

Drop-off Guidelines

Pre-K – 3 students will only be dropped off at home when the driver makes visual contact with a responsible individual. Students in grades 4-12 will be dropped off without visual contact. To alter these drop-off guidelines, the parent/guardian needs to provide the office with written notification with specific details.

High School Attendance

An Amendment to Section 104.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education concerning pupil attendance allows school districts to develop a comprehensive attendance policy that will establish and manage student attendance in relation to receiving course credit. These attendance regulations will make it clear to students and their families that the Edwards-Knox Jr. / Sr. High School now has a zero tolerance for truancy. Attendance in school is the responsibility of the students and their parents.

All students must bring a written note indicating the reason for the absence on the day they return to school. Students who are out for more than three days must have a doctor’s note. Students who leave early or arrive late due to a medical reason must bring verification from the medical office confirming their appointment. All absences will remain recorded as illegal absences if the student has not brought a written excuse in returning to school. Students should be provided one day per legal absence to make up work unless the teacher has specifically stated in their grading policies a different expectation (i.e., three days legally absent means three days to make up work).
