Academic Intervention Services (AIS) & Student Support

The Edwards-Knox Central School District provides Academic Intervention Services (AIS) to students who score below the state designated performance level on state assessments and/or who are at risk of not achieving the state learning standards as measured utilizing a variety of district determined assessments.

Academic Intervention Services (AIS) means additional instruction, which supplements the instruction provided in the general curriculum. Academic Intervention Services are intended to help eligible students achieve the NYS Learning Standards in English language arts, mathematics, social studies and/or science. Additionally, students who are at risk of not gaining the knowledge and skills needed to meet or exceed designated performance levels on state assessments are required to receive AIS.

These services may include:

  • Additional instruction that supplements the general curriculum and/or
  • Student support services needed to address barriers to improved academic performance.

The intensity of AIS may vary; it is designed to respond to student needs as indicated through State
and/or district, formal or informal assessments.
