Edwards-Knox Central School District welcomes Colin Fraser as the district’s new School Resource Officer (SRO). Fraser, a Morristown native, brings more than 20 years of experience with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and 15 years of service in the U.S. Army.
Officer Fraser is transitioning into school-based work with the hope of having a direct, positive impact on students. He feels that visibility is essential for an SRO, and hopes his presence will help calm students and shift their perceptions of law enforcement. Fraser believes that the purpose of an SRO should be to help maintain a safe, supportive school environment – not to get students in trouble.
As a graduate of Morristown Central School District, Officer Fraser finds the atmosphere at E-K inviting. Teachers have invited him into their classrooms, allowing him to introduce himself. He has spent time creating an open dialogue with students, and has even had the opportunity to engage in play with some of the younger students. He hopes to continue to integrate with the school community, and will provide support at school events and athletic contests.
Officer Fraser will also be working with Superintendent Erin Woods to review the district’s emergency procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
