• Immunizations

Posted by Brandi Graham at 9/6/2017

Under NYS Law, public school students are required to show proof of various immunizations.  Students at various grade levels are also required to show proof of health examinations.  We are legally required to have proof of immunizations within 14 days of the start of school (September 17, 2017) and proof of health examination within 30 days (October 5, 2017) of the start of school.  Understanding that appointments for immunizations and health examinations may not be possible within the 30 day timeframe, it is acceptable to provide the school with the scheduled date of the immunization or health examination.

Soon, parents of students who are missing proof of immunization or health examination will receive an official notice by mail.  The letter does indicate that if the required documentation is not received by September 19 for immunization the student will not be allowed to attend school.  Again, please notify the school of the date of a scheduled appointment for immunization or health examination if it falls outside of the required timeframe.  Extensions can be granted if such information is shared with the school.

When a letter is received explaining a situation in which a child cannot attend school, it can be deemed as very threatening.  Please understand that we are attempting to communicate with families the legal requirements that we have and that we need to follow.
