A second grade Edwards-Knox Central School teacher who recently published a children’s book served as a guest visiting author for Read Across America Week at E-KCS.

Amber Lottie officially launched the book “There’s a Gator Under the Banana Tree” in February. The story focuses on how Lottie felt as she explored Florida for the first time, including her adventures involving the animals and habitats in the state.

With the first full week of March being Read Across America Week, Lottie served as a guest visiting author and read to numerous classes at Edwards-Knox. As part of the storytime sessions, Lottie shared her joy and love for writing with the students.

Edwards-Knox celebrates Read Across America Week every March. Read Across America is an initiative by the National Education Association aiming to motivate school-aged children to read.

During the week, staff and students were encouraged to dress in spirit attire inspired by Dr. Seuss.

Book quotes were read on the school loudspeaker each morning. Students were instructed to guess the title of the book for which the quotes came from. Those guesses were submitted for a chance to win a special prize.

Students also enjoyed a whimsical snack for all students in grades pre-K-6 prepared by Edwards-Knox Central School Cafeteria staff.
