Edwards-Knox Central School District is welcoming a new elementary principal to its halls. Erin Hays was appointed to the position during the Oct. 14 Board of Education meeting.

Hays brings a wide range of experience to the table. She began her career teaching at Massena Central School, and went on to teach art and elementary classes at Morristown and Indian River. Across all three schools, Hays’ passion for education has shined through her organization of student participation in local community events, curriculum development, and serving on committees to support student improvement. In 2024, Hays was promoted to serve as the Dean of Students at Indian River School District where she worked on district and state initiatives, and she has since moved into the role of Assistant Principal for the Watertown City School District.
“I am very excited to begin working with the E-K school community,” said Hays. “I hope to continue the excellent systems already in place, and will work with all stakeholders in supporting our students in being the best versions of themselves possible.”
Current principal Lura Hughes will continue in her role through the end of October, at which time she will retire. Hughes grew up attending Edwards Central School, and proudly returned as an elementary teacher in 1992. She was promoted to her current role as Elementary Principal in September of 2014.
We thank Lura Hughes for her dedication and care for Edwards-Knox students in the earliest stages of their learning, and we look forward to starting this new chapter of leadership with Erin Hays!
