Dear Edwards-Knox Residents,
As we approach the upcoming vote on the district’s proposed 2026–27 budget, I would like to take a moment to share important information regarding the budget and other items that will appear on the ballot.
On Tuesday, May 19, residents will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed budget, which has been thoughtfully developed to maintain our academic programs while remaining within the state-mandated tax levy limit. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. in the Main Gym, located at 2512 County Route 24 in Hermon.
In addition to the $19,398,442 budget proposal, residents will also elect three members to the Edwards-Knox Board of Education and vote on a proposition to purchase three school buses.
The proposed 2026–27 budget represents an increase of $735,089 (3.94%) over the current school year. This increase is primarily driven by instructional programming, as well as rising costs associated with utilities, materials, supplies, and contractual obligations.
To support this budget, the district is proposing a tax levy increase of 3.22%, equivalent to $68,495. This increase is level with the district’s calculated tax levy limit of 3.22%. We believe this proposal reflects a responsible balance between preserving educational quality for our students and maintaining fiscal sensitivity for our taxpayers.
As part of our continued commitment to improving district facilities, this year’s budget also includes a capital outlay project. New York State allows districts to include up to $100,000 annually for such projects, with Edwards-Knox receiving approximately 94% state aid on these investments in the following year. This year’s project will focus on renovations to the Main Gym, including HVAC upgrades, improvements to the gymnasium divider system, and necessary maintenance to ensure the space remains safe, functional, and welcoming for students and the community.
Residents who would like to learn more about the proposed budget are encouraged to attend the Annual Budget Hearing on Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium. Additional information is available on the district website at www.ekcsk12.org, or by contacting the District Office at 315-562-8130.
This budget is more than a financial plan—it is a reflection of what we value as a school community. It represents our commitment to providing meaningful experiences for our students and ensuring they develop into caring, contributing citizens. Your participation in this process is essential. We sincerely appreciate your continued support as we work together to provide the best possible educational experience for our students and to strengthen our community.
Sincerely,
Erin E. Woods
