    2021-2022 Digital Design Syllabus

    Mrs. Impeys Digital Design Blog

This course is designed to give students that opportunity to work solely in the digital arts as a medium.  Throughout the course of the semester, students will be given various themes and prompts that will help them learn digital design programs, including but not limited to: Sketchbook, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Animator, and Character Animator.  During the creation process, students will be engaged in their art as an artist would be; play, experimentation, trial and error, and self-learning will all be encouraged.

Course units will help students explore the artist behaviors and artistic thinking processes using flexible instruction, which includes bootcamps, mini-lessons, and demonstrations.  Units will be organized around design software, building upon complexity of use of the program as the unit progresses.  Each unit will consist of a series of short bootcamp lessons.  Students will have a choice of the images they use.  At the end of each unit, students will be granted full choice to utilize the skills they’ve learned to solve a problem or fulfill a prompt of their choice.

Students will also participate in various critique activities meant to help them think critically, problem solve, reason clearly, listen constructively, and speak and write persuasively about art. Through these activities, students will be able to identify how a designer uses the basic elements and principles of art to create a successful digital composition.
