On the left-hand side of this web page, you will find an individual page for each high school art class.  General classroom policies and procedures are located on the Policies & Procedures page, but anything class specific, including grading policies, is located on each individual class page in the attached course syllabus.  Students involved in the art department here at E-K all use a fabulous website called Artsonia to showcase their artwork.  At anytime, you can access our on-line digital art gallery to see all of the wonderful works of art that have been completed, as well as read a little about each work from the accompanying artst statements.  

 

This year, Mrs. Impey has completely changed how we are doing things in the art room...or should I say, art studio!  This year we will be focusing on choiced-based learning.  Students will have more opportunity to explore subjects and use materials that interest them!  There will be a lot more self-reflection and assessment, writing, and talking about art this year.  We will be focusing our learning using the Artist Habits of Mind.

 

I do not expect that all students will be fabuous artists, but I believe all students have the potential to create thought-provoking, interesting, and meaningful works of art.  Each person needs to find the material they are the most comfortable with and then be confident enough to push themselves out of their comfort zones to learn that material to it's gretest potential.  While I know that not each person who walks through my classroom will become the next Leonardo da Vinci, I do believe it is extremely important for students to be positive and put forth an honest effort to learn to appreciate art and the creative process.  We all have different interests, likes and dislikes, and that's OK! 

 

When students leave the walls of E-K and enter the working world, they will need to be able to market themselves in creative and interesting ways to stand out amongst the competition.  Having a basic understanding of art, design, and the creative process is what I think will set our students apart from others and allow them to succeed in their future!  I can't wait to get this school year started and I look forward to seeing all of the fabulous art that lines our hallways this year!
