Welcome to 2-D Art!
This course is designed to give students that opportunity to work solely in 2-D art media. With Studio Art as a prerequisite for the course, students will explore 2-D media in more depth, including but not limited to: charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, pastel, acrylic paint, watercolor, and oil paint. Throughout the course of the semester, students will be given various themes and prompts in both historical and contemporary concepts ranging from representational to abstract. During the creation process, students will be engaged in their art as an artist would be; play, experimentation, trial and error, and self-learning will all be encouraged.
Course units will help students explore the artist behaviors and artistic thinking processes using flexible instruction, which includes bootcamps, mini-lessons, and demonstrations. Units will be organized around themes which will be provided by the teacher and brainstormed by students.
Students will also participate in various critique activities meant to help them think critically, problem solve, reason clearly, listen constructively, and speak and write persuasively about art. Through these activities, students will be able to identify how an artist uses basic elements and principles in a photographic composition to evoke powerful emotions and meanings.
Course Materials Required:

- Sharpies (you will receive one fine and extra fine point Sharpie from Mrs. Impey)
